Ongoing insurance
NZCRS is aware that insurers are assessing the ongoing insurance of properties affected by the Auckland weather events and Cyclone Gabrielle.
NZCRS encourages homeowners to contact their insurer and confirm the status of their ongoing insurance before undertaking works to repair their properties. It is important to know all the facts before making final repair decisions.
Homeowners wishing to sell or purchase a property in the affected regions should also check to make sure they will be able to obtain insurance once the property has changed hands.
Insurers are taking a case-by-case approach and being proactive in assessing future insurability. NZCRS supports this position to ensure homeowners are fully informed before they make financial decisions.
The Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) has developed general positions on what each Land Categorisation means for your ongoing insurance in consultation with all insurers.

The NZCRS service does not extend to sourcing insurance for homeowners or dealing with ongoing insurability. Homeowners should talk to their insurance broker or directly to their insurer.
